My husband and I purchased this crate because we recently purchased a new puppy and were trying to house break him. The only problem is that we both work 8 hours per day, and the puppy could only hold his urine for about 4 hours per day. That meant that everyday, we were coming home from work to find our dog lying in a puddle of his own urine. He would be soaked and smell horrible. We really didn't have any other options until we found this crate. Whenever our puppy would have an accident while we're at work, the urine would drain into the pans below him, and his coat stayed clean and dry. We also put training pads down on the pans to absorb any odor. It has been wonderful. We come home now, and our puppy has a clean, fresh coat. The pans are easy to clean. They slide right out from under the crate. We went for the larger crate because our dog will weigh about 100 or more pounds by the end of this year. We put his old, small crate into the larger one to compress the amount of space he had inside. We will remove the small crate once he is full grown. Because these things are so expensive, we just couldn't justify buying a new one each time he grew, so we kind of cheated. Now our puppy is holding his urine a lot longer, so there is hardly any clean up ever.
